As Obama celebrates his impending second term, Turkey is also celebrating a new era for US-Turkey relations. Dealings between the two countries are expected to enter a new phase with Obama taking more of an interest resolving the Syria conflict with the help of Turkish forces.
In his first term Obama took a backseat in international affairs, favouring a non-interventionist foreign policy. However, expectations are high that he will take much more of a stance in global affairs in his second term.
Already, British Prime Minister David Cameron has urged Obama to join him in acting with the Turkish army and Syrian rebels to create a safe zone inside Syria.
Meanwhile, Turkish government officials are confident that Obama’s re-election will mean a strengthening of ties and possible new trade agreements.
