Fethiye and Oludeniz
Once the Old Lycian city of Telmessos, Fethiye
is a lively port and market town, where Turkish life and tourism
exist side by side. Along the pretty waterfront you can watch
the traditional wooden gullets, motor launches and fishing
boats. At the nearby Calis
Beach, all sorts of water-sports and activities are availabe.
In the old port area of 'paspatur' you can
buy everything from aromatic herbs to 'designer' clothes,
nomadic rugs and hand-crafted jewellery. The famous rock tomb
of King Amyntas carved into the mountains supporting Fethiye
town is visited by many curious
travellers.
Fethiye
Town Market Place Located at the centre of the
town, the market place is a fascinating sight where a wide range
of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit, fresh fish, meat and dairy
products, as well as local handicrafts, are displayed for the locals
and tourists alike.

Paspatur in Fethiye
Town This small square is named after the cold
water spring called Paspatur, which flows into the pool located by
the sea. In the old days, locals used to submerge water
jags and melons into the pool for cooling, while animated,
friendly chats were embarked upon at the coffee-houses and pubs
located around this area. Fethiye
is and has always been a truly Mediterranean town with all charms
and laid back nature of its locals.
At present the
Paspatur square has grown and expanded, with restaurants
overshadowed by vine and ivy, bars and nightclubs; as well as shops
exhibiting touristic items and souvenirs such as leather
outfits, bags and accessories, golden and silver ornaments and
jewellery, carpets and rugs. In addition to buildings
which are outstanding samples of typical Greek architecture, the Old
Mosque and the Historical Turkish Bath are also submerged in the
noslagie of time.

It`s convenient location, crisp air, quiet
country trails and excellent accommodation make it an ideal base for
enjoying the diverse aspects of Turkish Mediterranean
coastline. Ovacik
is only 3 kms from Oludeniz
Beach and is the neighbouring village to Hisaronu.
Ovacik
village is spread out in a big valley just below Babadag
mountain. As a result, most of the properties in Ovacik
are situated within walking distance to main road and Hisaronu
village centre.
There are beatifully landscaped hotels with views over the
valleys down below, luxury villas with swimming pools, good choice
of apartments and self catering accommodation. Ovacik
is solid alternative to Hisaronu
village for those looking for more privacy and less
noise.
Hisaronu
is situated on a high plateau 4 kms from Oludeniz
and surrounded by stunning mountains. The once sleepy
villages of Hisaronu
and Ovacik
have now merged to create a lively resort which has a
distinctly British atmosphere. The nearest beaches are the
famous lagoon of Oludeniz
or the pebble and sand beach of Belcekiz. A dolmus leaves every five
or ten minutes.
Hisaronu village
is buzzing with bars, restaurants and shops. This is certainly
the place to find any imitation designer gear. The cool
mountain air can be quite a relief after a day in the sun and there
is plenty to do in the evening.
Hisaronu
and Ovacik are
blessed with a rugged and beautiful landscape, the potential of
which for activity holidays (and holiday activites) is just being
realised. Hisaronu
is certainly the choice of the more lively and the adventure
seeker. You can paraglide in Oludeniz
during the day, canoe down the Xanthos river to Patara, paintball in
the pine forests of Kaya Koyu and still take an overnight trip to
the classical ruins of Ephesus. Not to mention the many
bustling bars and restaurants that await you in the
evening.

Oludeniz,
only 5 minutes by car from Ovacik
and Hisaronu, on
Turkey`s south-west coast, boasts pristine white beaches and
amazingly blue waters. Oludeniz
beach is regarded by many as one of the finest beaches in the world,
known as "the Turquoise Coast". Oludeniz
is perfect for those who love beach and activity locations.
World Top Five Beaches
In a recent survey in UK - Oludeniz
Beach has been chosen as the top fifth beach in the
world.

Spain 3. South Beach, Miami 4. St Ives, Cornwall 5. Oludeniz,
Turkey Calis
Beach, Fethiye
Calis
itself is a small town of considerable charm, with a number of
beachfront restaurants offering views across the bay.
Nightlife is quiet but live music and even belly dancing have been
known to take place. The flat land makes it extremely easy to get
around, particularly for those with wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Calis
beach is popular with the local turtles, many of which come to lay
their eggs in the sand. It is also famous for some of the most
beautiful sunsets in the world.
A half-hour walk or 5-minute
drive takes you to nearby Fethiye
- or you may prefer to take the 15-minute water taxi ride, enjoying
the cool sea breeze on the way. Often described as the birthplace of
civilisation, Fethiye
is rich in Lycian and Roman remains, many of which have escaped the
clutches of tourism. The town neatly balances the attractions of a
bustling resort with a working regional centre.
There's a
range of shops, cafes and restaurants, several good beaches and some
of the best sailing to be found anywhere in the world. In fact, no
visit is complete without the 12 island tour - you can sail around
each island in the bay, with stops for lunch and
drinks.
In
the hills and cliffs overlooking Fethiye
you can find a series of tombs used to bury the dead as far back as
400 BC - the higher a person was
buried, the closer to God they were thought to be! Moving further
upwards, Mount Babadag offers the more adventurous a variety of sky
sports, including paragliding. Back on solid ground, a 20-minute
drive out of Fethiye
takes you to the deserted rock village of Kaya Koyu , where you'll
find fascinating historic remains of relations between the Turks and
the Greeks.
Residents of Calis
area take their time exploring the area further, taking in the towns
of Gocek , where there are four superb marinas one of which is being
developed, and Olu Deniz which offers more beautiful beaches and a
blue lagoon.
