Dalaman is bracing itself for its busiest summer yet as bookings for the area overtake popular Spanish resort Majorca for the first time ever.
The Co-operative Travel has reported that over the last four months, its holiday bookings for Dalaman have surged, bumping the once-favourite Spanish resort from the top spot. Dalaman bookings are up more than 80 per cent from last year, while the other top-20 destinations are up around 26 per cent collectively.
Consumers are focussing on getting more for their money this year, and with a package holiday to Dalaman priced at an average of £516, £79 lower than an equivalent break to Majorca, it’s a no-brainer for many sun seekers.
Another plus for Dalaman is the sheer number of flights that travel there year-round. Recognising the region’s growing popularity, a number of airlines such as Pegasus and Turkish Airlines have stepped up their schedules.
Dalaman is a region steeped in great natural beauty. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, it offers a peaceful alternative to the busy resorts elsewhere in Turkey. New marinas and golf courses are popping up around the region, and many visitors head here to catch a glimpse of the rare loggerhead turtle, which lays its eggs on the region’s beaches. It also boasts ancient tombs, mud baths, and rare wildlife.
