Admiral Turgut Reis: guardian of Turgutreis Summary
Turgutreis is named for its most famous resident, Admiral Turgut Reis. Born in the early sixteenth century, Turgut Reis rose from a humble beginning to become the commander of the Ottoman navy. He conquered Corsica and returned to Istanbul with a large number of prisoners. He was killed in 1595, during an attempt to take Malta. There is a statue of him near Turgutreis Town. Features
