Kas is a calm and picturesque town nestling between the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains, whose steep slopes rising to 500 meters protect it from the northerly winter winds. This is the most southerly of Turkish resorts and it enjoys long hot summer days and mild winters.
It is located in the region known as Lycia, the homeland of the once renowned people of the Lycian civilisation, who predated the Greeks and Romans. Kas was built on the site of the ancient Greek town of Antiphellos but remains of the earlier Lycian civilisation are to be seen all around.
From a practical perspective, Kas has 3 supermarkets that offer pretty much everything you would expect. There is also a good variety of butchers, green grocers, fish mongers, wine merchants, spice shops, hardware shops, barbers, beauty parlours, boutiques, shoe shops etc. Friday is market day.. and there you will find local produce including all manner of vegetables, cheese and fruit - as well as clothes, shoes, fancy goods and hardware stalls.
